Downloading eBooks on a Nook or Kobo eReader
If you have an Adobe-compatible eReader (like a NOOK or Kobo), you can download Libby books to a computer, then use Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to transfer them to your eReader.

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to your PC, laptop or Mac.
  2. When prompted, obtain an Adobe ID and then authorise ADE.
  3. On the Libby website, choose and borrow a book.
  4. Find the book on your shelf and click on Manage Loan.
  5. Click on Read With, then Other Ways to Read: EPUB.
  6. Open the file in Adobe Digital Editions, click the Library button in the top-left corner, then drag and drop the eBook into your eReader, which should appear on the left under Devices. You may need to accept a file transfer prompt on your eReader for it to appear in ADE.
Please note: In the UK, Kindle eReaders apart from Kindle Fires, (for example, Kindle Paperwhite) are incompatible with Libby eBooks.

You can download the Libby app to some NOOK models.

For more information about downloading eBooks to eReaders, please see the Libby Help Website.

OverDrive
The OverDrive app was 'sunset' on 1 May 2023, but although you can no longer download the app in the UK, if you already had it downloaded, at the moment you can continue to use it.

Kobo devices with built-in OverDrive functionality will still work. You can continue borrowing and reading OverDrive eBooks on these devices as usual.

Using Libby with a Child's Library Card
If you want to see what your child is reading on Libby, you can add their library card to your device. You will then be able to see and assess the suitability of their loans. You can also set Content Controls to restrict what your child can view on Libby.

Changes for customers using Libby on Android mobile devices
From 15 April 2024, Libby will only be compatible with Android Operating Systems (OS) of 7.1.1 and above. This is due to an update necessary to maintain customer security and privacy whilst using Libby.

If you have an Android mobile device which will be affected by this change, you should receive a notification in your Libby app. To continue using Libby on your device, you will need to check if you have any pending software updates available to install. Go to: Settings: System Update: Check for Updates.

If it’s not possible to install Android OS 7.1.1 or above, you will no longer be able to use Libby on your mobile device. It is possible to copy your library card, loans, holds, and tags to the Libby app on another mobile device if you have one.
